Performative writing with site-specific action
In 2020, after her first heartbreak, Madeleine Elisabeth Peccoux spiraled into depression, losing interest in sex, intimacy, and romantic connection altogether. Peccoux thought her ex-boyfriend was the coolest person she’d ever met, that no one would ever compare, and that she would be alone forever.
Around that time, singer Harry Styles was cementing his place as a pop culture icon. When he released Harry’s House, Madeleine realized that he was, in fact, cooler than her ex-boyfriend and ended up falling for him instead.
She sent him a love letter.
In the letter, she merged research into his favourite cocktail, scent, and author with reflections on her emotional distress, inability to masturbate, her mother, and her thoughts on love.
When he never responded, Madeleine printed it as posters, flew to London, and pasted them across his neighborhood. Since then, the letter has been circulating in many different shapes and forms in an attempt to reach him.
